Xining, October 24; (Xinhua) - a sulphuric acid production line has been built in golmud in northwest china's qinghai province, with an elevation of 2,817 m above the sea level, the highest of its kind in the world. The firm was funded jointly by Qinghai and the Tibet Autonomous Region to the tune of 25 million yuan (about 2.97 million us dollars). With technical support from the nanjing chemical industry research institute, the production line can provide 20,000 tons of quality sulphuric acid to both qinghai and Tibet each year. Experts said that this project has laid a solid foundation for the further development of the salt chemical, petrochemical and non-ferrous metals industries of the two places.
