TIBET AIRLINE TO ADD FOUR DOMESTIC ROUTES IN 1996 (Source WTN)

BEIJING, Nov 15 (Reuter) - China's western region of Tibet will add new domestic airline routes from its capital Lhasa to four more cities in 1996, China News Service said on Wednesday.

Tibet's Gongga airport will increase its daily capacity to 10 flights, while airlines will add flights from Lhasa to Shanghai, southwestern Kunming, northern Xi'an and Changdu in eastern Tibet, it said.

The increase will double the number of routes from Lhasa to eight, officials of the Tibet Autonomous Region Aviation Bureau told the news agency. Its planes already fly to Chengdu and Chongqing in neighbouring Sichuan province, to Beijing and to Kathmandu.

To meet the demand of increasing domestic and foreign tourism, the Tibet Aviation Bureau and Southwest Airlines have agreed to add an additional weekly flight to Beijing in 1996, from the current one.

After renovations, the airport can accommodate larger Boeing 767 aircraft, the news service said.
