POSITION FOR TIBET ON HUMAN RIGHTS DAY, 10TH DECEMBER 1995 - THE MEMBERS OF HUNGARIAN PARLAIMENT
Published by World Tibet Network News - Sunday, December 10, 1995

On this day of human rights, we the members of Hungarian Parliament belonging to different political parties support the European Parliament's Resolution No: B4-0963 adopted on 13th of July 1995, in which they have taken up the occupation of Tibet by the Peoples Republic of China, and condemn their attempt to eliminate the Tibetan nation, its religious and cultural identity.

We Protest Against:

- that in spite of United Nations Resolutions and the principles of International Law, Peoples Republic China continues to occupy Tibet since 1949, though Tibet had been recognized as de facto independent country by many countries.

- that the Chinese authorities using every means aimed at eliminating Tibetan national, religious and cultural identity through transfer of large number of Chinese population into Tibet, the sterlization of Tibetan women, the transformation of Tibetan administration under Chinese control and the persistent abuse of fundamental personal rights of Tibetans.

- concerned on the disappearance of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, a 6 year old Tibetan boy and his family members after the Dalai lama recognized him as the reincarnation of the Panchen Lama who is the second highest spiritual leader of Tibet.

We Expect the Chinese Government to:

* stop the occupation of Tibet

* stop Chinese population transfer in to Tibet

* stop the abuse of Fundamental Human Rights

* free Gedhun Choekyi Nyima

We ask the institution of European Union to support all initiatives which aims to settle the Tibet issue through political dialogue and urge the Chinese Government and the Tibetan Exile Government to start negotiations. We also urge the EU members to support the efforts of the Dalai Lama for a peaceful restoration of Tibetan Nation, religion and cultural freedom including self-determination of Tibet.

Signed by 200 Members of Hungarian Parliament
