China's interference in Tibetan religious matters condemned Thursday, 14 December - In another resolution, Parliament condemned China's intervention in the nomination of the candidate for the title of Panchen Lama. According to Parliament, this was strictly a religious matter, yet the Chinese authorities had imposed their own candidate. The resolution urges the Chinese authorities to respect the wishes of the Tibetan people by accepting the candidate recognised by the Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader. Parliament also called on the Chinese authorities to accord full freedom of movement and worship for Tibetan monks.
