Tibetan Flags over the European townhalls, appeal for Boutros Ghali to Receive the Dalai Lama. These are the Main Initiatives Undertaken at the end of the Strasbourg Meeting that was attended by about 100 Representatives of the Tibetan Community and the Tibetan Support Groups in Europe, and the Radical Party.

Brussels, December 19, 1995. The European demonstration for Tibet has been convened in Brussels for the next March 10, 1996. For the first time, the representatives of the three organizations which have decided to organize the large Brussels meeting (the communities of Tibetans in exile, the Tibet Support Groups and the transnational and transdivisional Radical Party) gathered together during the last weedend in Strasbourg.

The objectives of the demonstration and its strategies were discussed and decided by all the local, national and transnational bodies committed to the Tibetan cause.

Before the 10th of March several initiatives will be carried out, in particular they will be founded upon the proposal to the municipalities all over Europe to fly the Tibetan national flag on their townhalls on March 10, with the goal to reach by that date the number of at least 500 adhering cities. At the same time, in many national parliaments the Radical Party is collecting adhesions under an appeal addressed to the UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali, asking him to meet the Dalai Lama and start as soon as possible the necessary steps for a peaceful solution of the Tibetan question.

James Moorhouse and Gianfranco Dell'Alba from the EP Intergroup for Tibet, and several other members of the European Parliament attended the Strasbourg meeting. Among the other participants there were Tempa Tsering, Secretary for Information and International Relations of the Tibetan government-in-exile, Dawa Thondup and Chungdak D-Goren, representatives of the Dalai Lama in Paris and Geneva respectively.

The meeting appointed a European Coordinating body with political and organizational duties, a body formed by 4 people: a representative of the Tibetan communities in exile in Europe, a representative of the Radical Party, and two representatives of the Tibet Support Groups acting in Europe. A national committee with similar structure will operate in each European country.
