[CND, 12/27/95] The Three Gorges Hydro-electric Project on the Yangtze River is under way as planned despite criticisms from environmentalists and some researchers who feared its catastrophic effect, AFP reports from Beijing. "According to the minister (of the power industry), the construction of the Three Gorges Project is in full swing," AFP cited a Xinhua report. The government has recently given the go-ahead to the project management to build a 9,100-kilometer and 500-kilovolt transmission line and substation systems, the report said.
