Xinhua reports that repair work on Ganden, one of the three largest monasteries in Tibet, is nearing completion. Located east of Lhasa, the monastery was first built in 1409 but was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). In 1993 Beijing allocated over $3 million for repairs, to be completed by the end of 1996.
