Xinhua reports that renovation of the Qinghai-Tibet highway, an artery linking Tibet with China's hinterland, is 90% complete and will be finished by August 1996. The 1970 km highway handles 85% of the total transport in and out of Tibet. A 700 km section was seriously damaged by seasonal freezing.
