[5] Tibet is expected to register a GNP of 5.25bn yuan for last year, a record high and an increase of 10.6 per cent over the previous year, when measured in constant prices, Xinhua news agency reported. The region had another bumper harvest and success in animal husbandry last year. Agriculture output value is expected to hit 2.3bn yuan, an increase of 4.5 per cent over the previous year. Tibet produced 700,000 tons of grain, an increase of 5.3 percent. With increases in the number of young livestock and a decline in the death rate, their numbers jumped by 19 per cent. Meat production grew by 5.9 percent and township industry increased by 47.4 per cent.
The region is expected to produce 613m yuan in industrial output value in 1995, up 14.6 per cent from the previous year. Tibet approved 16 investment projects, using domestic and overseas funds of 207m yuan.
In 1995, the autonomous region had 2.65bn yuan in retail sales, an increase of 17.8 per cent over the previous year. Bank savings increased to 6.69bn yuan by the end of last year, up 27.2 per cent.
