SHANGHAI, 11th January: Shanghai, China's largest industrial city, has signed an agreement with the Tibet Autonomous Region to aid the area in developing science and technology. In accordance with the agreement, scientists and researchers from Shanghai will go to Xigaze [Shigatse] of Tibet to work for a period of time. A Tibetan science and technology delegation will visit Shanghai to discuss cooperation projects with the city.
Meanwhile, Shanghai will also help train technicians from the Xigaze Prefecture. The Shanghai Science and Technology Commission will provide motor vehicles and 300,000 yuan to help the prefecture set up a science and technology fund.
Under the agreement, Xigaze will also receive 210,000 yuan in assistance from the Shanghai Library, the Shanghai Research Institute of Science and Technology Information, the Shanghai Patent Agency, Shanghai Science and Technology Investment Company and the Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
