BEIJING, 12th January: Chinese President Jiang Zemin met with the 11th Panchen Lama Gyaincain Norbu here today. Also meeting the Panchen Lama were Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and other high-ranking officials.
The State Council, China's highest governing body, approved Gyaincain Norbu as the 11th Panchen Lama on 29th November 1995.
