Haikou, 20th January: Construction of a hydroelectric power station by Hainan Province in the Tibetan Autonomous Region is benefiting local people.

Located in Dingqing County, northeast Tibet, the station has a power generating capacity of 1,200 kW. The whole construction cost 24m yuan, aided by Hainan Province.

"Now residents in the Dingqing County have electric lights, colour television sets, electric stoves, even karaoke machines," said Zhalha Gongbu, Magistrate of Dingqing County.

A number of factories have gone into operation since the station was completed last August, he said.
