Your Jan. 25 editorial titled "Read the riot act to China" was superb.
With the Cold War finally over, much of the world is launching toward a more democratic society in which more energy and resources can be utilized to improve human welfare instead of warfare. Yet China shipped ballistic missiles to Pakistan and sold chemical weapons to Iran, as you mentioned in the editorial.
Furthermore, Chinese authorities recently warned Hong Kong residents to remain "patriotic," appointed a 6-year-old as Tibet's new religious leader and threatened Taiwan as well as the U.S. with military action.
I salute you on asking President Clinton to let the Chinese know in no uncertain terms that the U.S. military will guarantee Taiwan's territorial integrity from missile attack or invasion. We cannot afford to see China disturbing the peace in the Far East. You are right--America must put an end to Bejing's strutting and bullying.
