Text of report by Hungarian radio on 11th March
Budapest Mayor [Gabor Demszky] did not want to take a step which would damage relations between Hungary and China, therefore he did not have the Tibetan flag hoisted on the building of the Budapest Town Hall.
The [opposition] Federation of Young Democrats-Hungarian Civic Party said that by this inaction Gabor Demszky had broken his written promise. He has also failed to take a stand in support of the cause of the Tibetan people, the Young Democrats said.
The Budapest mayor said that the [Hungarian] Foreign Ministry had warned him that China would regard the hoisting of the Tibetan flag on local government buildings as an unfriendly step.
