Text of commentary entitled "People's wishes are irresistible" , as broadcast by Chinese regional TV from Tibet

The fourth session of the Eighth National People's Congress adopted the Ninth Five-Year Plan for our country's National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Term Targets for the Year 2010, which is a grand trans-century blueprint that displays our nation's splendid prospects for the 21st century. People of all nationalities in Tibet are greatly inspired. Under the leadership of the regional party committee and the regional government, the entire people are working hard with one heart and one mind to strive for greater achievements in the building of a united new Tibet with a high degree of civilization. Our great cause has thus moved into a new stage.

However, the tree may crave calm, but the wind will not drop. With the support and help of international anti-China forces, the Dalai separatist clique, not resigning themselves to previous defeats, continued to launch new sabotage activities in an attempt to split the motherland and obstruct this region's economic development and social progress. What the Dalai clique did further laid bare its true sinister aim of splitting the motherland, bringing calamity to Tibet and the Tibetan Buddhist religion, and its unwillingness to see the Tibetan people living a happy life. Facts have once again shown that the Dalai is the chieftain of the separatist clique which is trying to create Tibet's independence, and is a faithful tool of the international anti-China forces. He is the root cause of all turmoil in Tibet and is the greatest obstacle to normal order in the Tibetan Buddhist religion. The desperation of the Dalai clique precisely exposed its weakness. Stability, unity, prosperity and development represent what

the people hope for. The sabotage activities of the

Dalai clique violated the fundamental interests of the people of all nationalities in Tibet and certainly encountered the Tibetan people's resolute opposition and the state's severe punishments according to the laws. All reactionaries certainly follow the course of creating trouble again and again and ending up with failure again and again. The vast number of CCP [Chinese Communist Party] members, cadres and common people of all nationalities in this region must keep a high degree of vigilance against the sabotage activities of the Dalai clique and deal a resolute blow to them. We must tightly and unswervingly grasp the central task of economic construction and should persistently use both hands to handle our work and keep both hands tough. We must make great efforts to push this region's material and spiritual civilization to a higher level, speed up Tibet's development, maintain social stability and build a united and prosperous new Tibet with a degree of socialist civilization. This represents the fundame

ntal interests of the Tibetan people of all nationalities and is what the people hope for. This also represents a historical trend that can never be resisted by anybody.
