Montreal: The Canadian Human Rights Foundation has announced that Ms. Chime Dolkar, of Dharmsala has been selected as one of the participants in 1996's Human Rights Summer Course. Chime works at the Tibetan Government's Department of Information and International Relations, responsible for the woman's desk.

Ms. Tenzin Jimpa, a Canada Tibet Committee member, sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Human Rights Foundation. "We are pleased that the Foundation is able to fund a young Tibetan who works for the Tibetan cause. The training Chime receives at the course will certainly assist her in that work".

Approximately 130 activists from around the globe are selected annually to take part in the three-week course held outside Montreal from June 23 until July 12. Representatives of the Foundation interview candidates on field trips during the preceding year. Applications are also accepted by recommendation of Canadian NGOs.

The students of the Human Rights Summer Course study a unique curriculum which focuses on the functioning of the United Nations and its human rights bodies and instruments. The course is staffed by an international group of experts. Students also meet with representatives of the Canadian Government's Division of Human Rights and Justice as well as with Canadian NGOs. Most importantly, the course provides the opportunity to develop links with human rights advocates from all over the world.
