LANZHOU (April 3) XINHUA - A chemical company came up with a winning formula for a barren mountain area close to their factory in China's Gansu province.

The Lanzhou Chemical Industry Company planted over five million trees to transform the mountain.

As well as helping to create a green backdrop to the factory the tree planting has reaped many other benefits for employees.

The chemical company planted over 40,000 apple, pear and peach trees, built 26 chicken farms and a ranch with 150 cows, which yield over 650, 000 kg of eggs and 250,000 kg of milk annually, and basically meet the health care demands of workers.

It is a similar story at other factories where tree planting is carried out. Many enterprises in the northwest province are located on barren deserts, and they have played a leading role in local afforestation.

Many of China's major heavy industrial plants are located in the remote and barren areas. But as the plants were constructed, green belts appeared around them.

Workers of the Changqing Petroleum Exploration Bureau plant trees wherever they go, and so far more than eight million trees have been planted. The Wanli Mechanical and Electric Plant has planted over 100, 000 trees.

Many large enterprises are among the most active in tree planting, according to forestry departments.

Meanwhile, the improved environment has helped promote efficiency, and a good attitude among workers, managers said.
