STATE OF NEW YORK
EXECUTIVE CHAMBER
March 10, 1996 marks the 37th anniversary of the Lhasa uprising, a protest against China's invasion of Tibet. In honor of this historic event, the U.S. Tibet Communitee will celebrate with the reading of a special message from His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, and a candlelight vigil.
The people of New York cherish human rights and freedom for all. It is only fitting that we join with Tibetans throughout the state and the world in commemorating this significant occasion.
New York salutes the people of Tibet, as well as the many Tibetans who call New York home. As we all come together in celebration, let us join with Tibetans throughout the world in their continued hope and prayers for freedom.
NOW THEREFORE, I, George E. Pataki, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby recognize March 10, 1996 as
TIBETAN NATIONAL DAY
in the Empire State.
George E. Pataki
