LHASA (April 19) XINHUA - A total of 11.35 million yuan in donations from 22 work units in Shanghai, the country's leading industrial and commercial center, was recently sent to the Tibet Autonomous Region to be used for Project Hope.
The donations will be used in 23 projects, such as secondary and primary schools and kindergartens in the autonomous region's Xigaze Prefecture.
They are the fruit of efforts by Shanghai's Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) in response to a call by the Central Committee of the CYLC for support of Tibetan education.
There are currently 70 percent of Tibet's school-age children who are enrolled in schools.
The Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CYLC also donated 250,000 yuan to its Tibetan counterpart for buying office equipment.
