Beijing, 19th April: A delegation of the Sejm [Polish parliament] Foreign Affairs Committee, now on a visit to the People's Republic of China, on Friday [19th April] met with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress [NPC] to discuss both countries' foreign policy directions and Polish-Chinese relations.

Both sides stressed the need for tightening cooperation between Poland and China, said chairman of the Sejm Foreign Affairs Committee and head of the delegation Bronislaw Geremek. He added that both sides also stressed that the development of cooperation is hampered by the lack of collaboration between banks and credit support for Polish exports to China. The Chinese side underlined insufficient promotion of Polish export offer on the Chinese market.

The Polish delegation touched upon the problem of human rights while speaking about ethnic problems of Tibet and Chinese policy towards Taiwan. "We stressed that the observation of universal human rights would enhance China's image world-wide," Bronislaw Geremek said.

The Polish delegation will end its visit to China on 26th April. Before leaving it is scheduled to visit Shanghai and the Xiamen special economic zone.
