A 12-day Spirit of Tibet Festival is in progress in Newburyport, MA. Twelve Tibetan Buddhist monks of the Sera Je Monastery, Tibet have been in Newburyport since April 23. Mayor Lisa Mead welcomed the monks after which the monks began the detailed 10-day task of constructing a five-foot diameter sand mandala. Newburyport is the only site in the Eastern United States where a mandala is being offered.
A live presentation of sacred dance, music and chants using authentic costumes, masks and instruments will be on Saturday May 4 at 7pm at the Nock School Auditorium, Newburyport. Adults $15, Senior $12, Children $10. At the door $20. For information contact 508.465-9359.
