All bands will perform on two equal-sized stages with set times staggered to alternate larger acts with the lesser-known. All bands will receive equal billing. There will be no headliner. Show time is noon for both days, with continuous music running until approximately 5:00 pm.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Milarepa Fund, a San Francisco-based non-profit organization co-founded by the Beastie Boys in 1994. Milarepa's purpose in organizing the concert is to raise awareness of the political situation and human rights abuses in Tibet and China by the Chinese government. These abuses include the torture and imprisonment of political dissidents, religious persecution, forced abortions and sterilizations, the destruction of thousands of monasteries and sacred Buddhist sites, and the deaths of over one million Tibetans since the 1949 invasion by Chinese forces. Milarepa is also helping to promote an international boycott of Chinese goods for the month of June. By participating, consumers will send a strong message that human rights are as important as trade. The month of June has been chosen because China's Most Favored Nation trading status will be up for renewal.
