Published by World Tibet Network News - Saturday, May 11, 1996XINING (May 10) XINHUA - The research and use of Tibetan medicine, with its more than 2,000-year history and links to traditional Chinese medicine, has been successful in northwest China's Qinghai Province, the home of many Tibetans.
Medical workers in the 24 hospitals that deal with Tibetan medicine that have been set up in Qinghai and the 38 departments of Tibetan medicine in other comprehensive hospitals have developed a fairly complete and scientific system of medicine and got a great deal of clinical experience.
A large number of qualified medical workers have also appeared, with Tibetan medicine classes at Qinghai Medical School having provided 320 graduates for the hospitals.
Construction work on the Qinghai Tibetan Medical College is also under way. Traditional master-and-apprentice teaching methods are being replaced by more modern education.
At the same time, researchers have been making efforts to collect and collate classical medical works and conduct surveyson pharmaceutical resources.
A dozen books on Tibetan medicine have been published and 2,200 kinds of medicinal herbs, 159 animals, and 80 different minerals are identified for use.
