London, 11 May: - His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual and political leader, will visit Denmark, Italy, Sweden and Norway from 12 - 29 May 1996. This will be His Holiness' first foreign visit in 1996.
His Holiness will be in Denmark from 12 - 16 May at the invitation of the foreign Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament. On 13 May His Holiness will address a hearing on human rights in Tibet organised by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament.
The hearing will examine the past and present historical situation of Tibet, with regard to its demographic and geographical area. Attention will also be drawn to the status and future of Tibet.
His Holiness will meet Dr Erling Olsen, Speaker of the Danish Parliament, on 13 May, and Mr Niels Helveg Petersen, the Foreign Minister of Denmark, on 15 May. His Holiness will address a press meeting hosted in the Danish Parliament Building on 15 May by the Danish Foreign Policy Society.
From 16 - 21 May evening His Holiness will be in Italy, giving teachings in Palermo and other Italian cities.
On the evening of 21 May, His Holiness will arrive in Stockholm, where His Holiness will give five public talks including an address at the Olof Palme's International Cente. This will be chaired by Mr Sten Andersson, the Director and the Swedish Former Foreign Minister.
On 25 - 27 May, His Holiness will visit the Sami Land of Sweden, Norway and Finland, at the invitation of the Sami Parliaments from the three countries. The three Sami Parliaments will host a dinner in honour of His Holiness' second visit to the Sami Land on 26 May in Kautokeino, Norway.
His Holiness will address the Sami Parliamentarians during the dinner. While in the Sami Land, His Holiness will visit a Sami Women's handicraft centre.
On the invitation of the Norwegian Nobel Institute and Peace Research Institute in Oslo, His Holiness will speak on the Contemporary Situation in Tibet which will be chaired by Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Mr Geir Lundestad.
His Holiness will leave Oslo for New Delhi on 29 May.
