The 27th general conference of the Switzerland-based Tibetan Youth Association in Europe (TYAE), held in a place near Zurich from April 5 to 8, 1996, has elected Jigme Risur as the association's new President. Other members of the executive committee are Lhawang Desam (Vice President), Tashi Palmo Buewang, Dolma Lungtok, Jigme Shitsetsang, and Tsering Doma Khatatsang.

A special feature of the TYAE's general conferences is a specific theme which is taken up for discussion. This year's theme was "Is Tibetan independence just an empty slogan?"
