Excerpt from report by Hong Kong newspaper `Sing Tao Jih Pao' entitled: "As assassinations and terrorist activities are frequent in Xinjiang and Tibet, all units are on emergency alert"
Both Xinjiang and Tibet have stepped up efforts to crack down on separatist activities. Xinjiang has issued an order strictly controlling border areas to prevent terrorists from smuggling weapons from Central Asian countries into China. West Tibet has warned separatists to surrender as soon as possible, and ordered that terrorist separatists who carry out assassinations, bombings and other violent activities must be severely punished.
