CHINA SEARCHING FOR SPONSORS OF TIBET EXHIBIT

A Chinese company, Shenzhen Central and West Asia Exhibition Company, has been contacting museums and universities in the United States requesting them to sponsor a "Tibetan Cultural, Antiques, Arts and Crafts Exhibition".

The full letter by the company, obtained by the Office of Tibet in New York, says:

We learn about your esteem organization through our friends in New York.

We are a company in Shenzhen, China, specialised in Exhibitions and Promotions.

We now have been entrusted by our local concerns to put up an Exhibition Tour for an "Tibetan Cultural, antiques, Arts and Crafts Exhibition" in the United States. This is a show mainly organized by the Tibetan Autonormous (sic) Regions Government jointly with the Buddhist Association of Tibet, china. This Exhibition Project Tour has the blessing of our Chinese Central Government.

All Exhibits will reflect the special characteristics of the rich, beautiful and unique cultures and traditions of Tibet and its people.

The List of Exhibits will total 1,471 items, plus related informative literatures and some 600 items of crafts and tapestries. The Exhibits will include:

Masks; prayer-room; Mandala; Pottery; Thangka; Gold and Silver Wares; Tibet Calender; Costumes; Tapestries; Leather Carvings; Religious Room Family Temple, etc. The required floor space will be about 1,400 square meters.

There will also be a very special item called 'Ta Sai Fu', which in itself will cover an area of 45 x 35 meters. It can be either indoor or outdoor. (A copy of its layout is attached herewith for your easy reference.) In fact this will be the very first time the outside world will have the opportunity to view this piece of manificient and serene Buddhist culture.

We wish to inquire if you are interested to cooperate with us and thus allow us to put up this Exhibition in your Museum. If affirmative, please then advise us the following.
