BEIJING, June 18 (Reuter) - China has launched a six-month project to educate Tibetans to protect their cultural relics, the Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday.
The project in the restive Himalayan region would provide a detailed introduction of historical relics discovered on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, Xinhua said.
The relics include the Potala Palace, former residence of Tibet's god-king Dalai Lamas, the ancient and holy Johkang Temple in the heart of the capital Lhasa as well as tomb groups and frescoes, it said. An exhibition would be held to feature archeological discoveries and posters published to educate residents in how to preserve historical relics and trade antiquities collected at markets, it said.
Local newspapers, television stations and broadcasting stations would also take part in the project to draw attention from Tibetans, especially in the rural areas.
