LHASA (June 20) XINHUA - The Tibet Autonomous Region opened its first public library today in Lhasa, the region's capital. The majority of the library's collection will be books written in Tibetan or about Tibet. It plans to establish itself as the center of public education, as well as the databank for Tibet studies in China and abroad.
About 500 publishing houses throughout the country donated 380,000 books worth nearly four million yuan (about 500,000 US dollars) to the library. It also received from overseas friends about 10,000 books publish theories and the sophisticated skills necessary for the complicated performance.
In the eyes of the children's parents, however, Cedan Wangmo worked the hardest: in addition to teaching the children language courses, she has to complete her daily class chores.
"It takes much of her time every day to clear up all the costumes and props left by the children after their rehearsal," one of the parents exclaimed.
