Bonn, June 21 (SZ) - Despite renewed intense Chinese protests the Bundestag on Thursday has unanimously condemned China's Tibet politics and urged the Leadership in Beijing to stop the violations of human rights against Tibetans.
China spoke about "rude interference" with its internal matters. The Chinese embassy made a statement that the resolution is not only harming the relations but also will be of disadvantage for the long-term interests of Germany. In Bonn the Foreign Minister Kinkel's planned visit to Beijing on July 11 is viewed as possibly endangered...
Foreign Minister Kinkel explained the attitude of the Federal Government to the matter of Tibet: that Tibet is an integral part of the Chinese state and that Germany is not recognizing the "Tibetan Government in Exile" which was formed by the Dalai Lama in India. In the same time he assured that the Federal Government supports the "demand of the Tibetans of cultural and religious atonomy". He made clear that he will appeal to the Chinese government during his visit to Beijing "to enter negotiations about the question of the autonomy of Tibet"...
The chairman of the Subcommittee of Human Rights in the Bundestag, Christian Schwarz-Schilling (CDU) repudiated China's attempts of preventing the Tibet-resolution of the Bundestag. Earlier, the Subcommittee had been willing to postpone the resolution which then would have been treated in a later point of time following a proposed trip of a group of members of the parliament to Tibet. China had refused the entry of the German delegates.
