BEIJING (June 21) XINHUA - The General History of Tibet -- Strings of Turquoise, has just been published by the Tibet Classics Publishing House and been well received by Tibetologists.
The monumental work gives accounts of historical incidents and people strung together like a string of turquoise, a stone found in Tibet, the book's compilers said.
The original Tibetan version, published in September, 1990, was compiled by three Tibetan scholars: Qabe Cedan Puncog, Norzham Wugyain, and Puncog Cering.
The book has almost 1,000 pages and is the first general history of Tibet written by contemporary Tibetan scholars, and is expected to be a great help in Tibetan studies.
The book attracted interest from scholars both in China and abroad and has received a national book award.
With detailed historical materials, the book is regarded by Tibetologists and historians as an encyclopedia of Tibetan history, religion, economy, cult and relations of ethnic groups.
To get more people acquainted with the long story of Tibet, the Tibetan branch of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ain Beijing and Lhasa to translate the book into Chinese.
