Published by: World Tibet Network News, Thursday, June 27, 1996

LHASA (June 27) XINHUA - The temperature in Lhasa, the capital city of the Tibet Autonomous Region, dropped to two degrees centigrade during the first ten days of June, the lowest ever recorded during June in the region.

According to the local meteorological department, the recorded lowest temperature in Lhasa's history was 2.3 degrees on June 2, 1959.

Official sources said that the average temperature in most parts of Tibet is more than one degree lower than it was in the same period previously, and was even four to five degrees lower in Lhasa and the Nagqu region in northern Tibet.

Experts said , the cold rainy weather will not harm most of the crops, but corn and potatoes may be damaged at some point.

>From June 9 to 17, temperatures rose and rainfall diminished in most parts of Tibet. The northern Qamdo and the eastern Nagqu regions had twice moderate rains.
