Oslo, 28th June: During his talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Brundtland this morning, Chinese President Jiang Zemin, who is on a state visit here, said China hoped that Norway would guard against the Dalai's attempt to seek international support for his separatist activities and would not let the friendly relations between China and Norway be disrupted or undermined by the Dalai clique.

At Prime Minister Brundtland's request, Jiang Zemin introduced economic, cultural and religious developments in Tibet in recent years and the stance of the Chinese central government on the issue of Tibet.

Jiang Zemin said: The Dalai is not a religious figure per se; he is a political exile who had long engaged in activities of splitting his motherland and undermining national unity.

He said: The Chinese central government's policy towards the Dalai is consistent and specific; namely, the central government is willing to negotiate with the Dalai at any time, provided he completely abandons his stance of "Tibetan independence" and stops activities to split the motherland.

At the talks, Jiang Zemin also presented Prime Minister Brundtland with "Collection of Records of Tibet's History" and other relevant books and picture albums and books concerning Tibetan culture.

Brundtland expressed her appreciation. The two also exchanged views on the issue of human rights. They held that such dialogue was beneficial to improving mutual understanding...
