LHASA (June 29) XINHUA - Tibet's first hospital specially for treating infectious diseases was completed in Lhasa Friday, providing better treatment and prevention of disease for local people.
The Tibet Isolation Hospital was one of 62 construction projects undertaken by the Shanghai municipal government for providing aid in Tibet's local economic development.
The project started last April, and used more than 30 million yuan in investment.
The hospital has an outpatient clinic and 200 beds for respiratory and digestive tract diseases, and radiation wards. The Shanghai Public Health Bureau has also donated some advanced medical equipment to the hospital.
The hospital will become a clinical research and treatment center for infectious diseases, as well as a training base for local medics, according to officials with the Public Health Department of the Tibet autonomous regional government.
