LONDON, July 9 (Reuter) - China has been jamming an exiled Tibetan radio station, the Voice of Tibet, the British Broadcasting Corporation monitoring service said on Tuesday.
On Monday and Tuesday "...BBC Monitoring observed that the station was completely obliterated by a relay of China Radio International's English-language domestic music service "Easy FM,"" the BBC said.
The Chinese station was normally only broadcast on medium wave and VHF/FM frequencies within China. "The Easy FM relay ended at 1200 GMT, at the same time as the Voice of Tibet transmission," it said.
Voice of Tibet, which began broadcasting in May, is produced in Oslo by the Worldview International Foundation and hires airtime on a shortwave transmitter in the Seychelles, the BBC said.
The broadcasts have previously been jammed by noise reportedly emanating from Chinese transmitters, the monitoring service said.
China says it has ruled Tibet for centuries and it sent troops into the Himalayan region in 1950. Many Tibetans reject Beijing's claim to sovereignty.
