The following are articles on Tibet which have appeared in mainstream U.S. journals. Bhuchung Tsering

1. Vanity Fair, August issue: A lengthy article on the Panchen Lama issue by Alex Shumatoff. The writer had visited Tibet and Dharamsala for the story.

2. Rolling Stone, August 8 issue: A report on the Tibetan Freedom concert in San Francisco as well as an interview with H.H.the Dalai Lama by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. The title: Buddha & the Beat: Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins & Rage Against the Machine Rock for Tibet.

3. Harper"s, August 19996 issue: Excerpt from an article in Cypersangha (Spring issue) on "The tough life of a teenage Lama." Story of Pema Jones, 13, born of Tibetan mother and an American father, presently living in Wyoming.

4. The Economist, July 13-19 issue. Reference to Tibet in the report; Separatism in China, primarily on the situation in Eastern Turkestan.

5. Tibet, Richard Gere and the European Parliament: A local channel in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area broadcast a program, Focus on Europe, produced by the Deutsche Welle TV of Germany on July 20 evening. The topic was lobbying in the European Parliament. The success of Tibetan lobbying was hinted with a lengthy footage of Richard Gere's recent visit to the Parliament along with Geneva-based Representative Chungdak Koren. The report highlighted Richard's ability to woo people, particularly women to the Tibetan issue.

6. PBS interview with His Holiness the Dalai Lama: The July 26 broadcast of PBS's In Search of God includes an interview with H.H.the Dalai Lama. The program airs at 10 pm (Eastern time)
