STEVEN SEAGAL MEETS WITH DALAI LAMA AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY; ACTOR LENDS SUPPORT TO PEACEJAM CONFERENCE

LOS ANGELES, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Actor Steven Seagal will meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Friday, July 26, during a teen conference sponsored by PeaceJam at Indiana University. Entitled "Ecology and the Human Heart," the two-day conference will give 80 high school students the opportunity to interact with the Tibetan Nobel Peace Prize winner as they learn about his life. As part of the activities, Seagal will join His Holiness on stage to introduce PeaceJam representatives and speak at a Friday afternoon press conference in the Indiana Memorial Union on the Bloomington campus.

Seagal, known for his roles in hit action films, has been a longtime devotee of Tibetan Buddhism. He recently hosted His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, the Supreme Head of the Nyingmapa tradition of the Tibetan-Vajrayana Buddhism, at a special empowerment ceremony in Los Angeles.

Supported by the Fetzer Institute, PeaceJam is an international educational organization whose dynamic outreach program is designed to foster the next generation of peacemakers. Its board of advisors is comprised of eight Nobel Peace Prize laureates, including the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Betty Williams, Aung San Suu Kyi, Oscar Arias Sanchez, Nelson Mandela, Rigoberta Menchu Tum and Mairead Corrigan Maguire. The IU conference is the second in a series, following a successful inaugural conference that drew 200 students to Regis University last March to learn about and work with Betty Williams who, along with Maguire, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977 for their efforts to end violence in Northern Ireland.
