Text of report by Chinese regional TV from Tibet

Led by Liu Qiyan, vice-minister of the Radio, Film and Television Ministry, a 57-member national radio and television system Tibet study group arrived in Lhasa on the morning of 10th August. Cering Zhuoga, vice-chairman of the autonomous region, leaders of the autonomous regional radio and television department and responsible comrades of relevant departments greeted the group with Tibetan customs at the airport. Later in the afternoon, Chen Kuiyuan, the autonomous party committee secretary; Yang Chuantang, autonomous regional party committee deputy secretary and autonomous regional executive vice-chairman; Chen Hanchang, standing committee member of the autonomous regional party committee and head of the propaganda department; and Cering Zhuoga, autonomous regional vice-chairperson, cordially visited Vice-Minister Liu Qiyan and his entourage at their lodging place.

Making an enthusiastic speech at the meeting, Chen Kuiyuan said: Since the Third Forum on Work in Tibet, the party's Central Committee, various ministries and commissions and various fraternal provinces and municipalities have shown deeper concern and greater support for Tibet's development in all fields, with the radio and television system continuously stepping up support and assistance to their Tibetan counterparts. He said: Tibet's radio and television is not only a reliable means of enhancing the spiritual and cultural quality of the Tibetan people, but also our powerful weapon in opposing the Dalai clique's splittist activities backed by Western hostile forces. With the backing of the party's Central Committee and the direct support and concrete guidance given by the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television, the Tibet autonomous regional party committee has taken the development of Tibet's radio and television undertaking as an outstanding, important mission in its socialist modernization drive. While ma

king our own efforts in this respect, it is our hope that the central authorities and various fraternal provinces and municipalities will offer us further support.

During the meeting, Liu Qiyan, vice-minister of the Radio, Film and Television Ministry, thanked the Tibet autonomous regional party committee and the government for their warm hospitality, hoping that the current study tour will bring new progress to Tibet's radio and television undertakings.

It has been learned that the national radio and television system Tibet study group will conduct relatively large-scale study and educational activities in the region, including offering all-round guidance, to improve Tibet's radio and television services.
