1. TYC Working Committee to Meet in Mussoorie
The 27th annual Working Committee Meeting of the Tibetan Youth Congress is being held in Mussoorie from August 23 to 28, 1996. According to available information, the proposed consultation (popularly called "referendum") that the Tibetan Government is planning will be top of the agenda of the meeting. TYC will be framing its position on the issue at the Mussoorie meeting.
2. Tibetan Institute in Sarnath Honours Indian President.
The Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath on August 21, 1996 (yesterday) honoured Indian President Shankar Dayal Sharma during its annual convocation. President Sharma, in his keynote address, praised the Institute's efforts to promote Tibetan Buddhist studies.
This convocation saw 14 women graduates. Since the mid eighties, the Institute has become co-ed and has been seeing an increasing number of female students.
3. His Holiness to meet F.W. de Klerk on Saturday
According to information from South Africa, His Holiness is to meet the former South African president and head of the National Party F.W. de Klerk on Saturday. So far His Holiness has met with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and President Nelson Mandela.
