Published by World Tibet Network News - Tuesday, September 26, 1996Dear friends,
Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj, a voluntary organization with mass base in India, is carrying forward the mission of Mahatma Gandhi in bringing about a revolutionary change in society through non-violent means; for harmony between different sections of society and strengthening the forces of peace, by trying to find out non-violent solutions for various problems; for establishment of peace and justice and also to render moral support to all peaceful and non-violent struggles against injustice and oppression in various parts of the world. With these objectives we have undertaken programmes involving millions of people. We have also taken initiative to establish friendly relations between our immediate neighbours through people-to-people contact.
The struggle of the Tibetan people under the noble leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama against the present Chinese rule is one of the unique and remarkably peaceful and non-violent struggle of our times. As a true follower of Lord Buddha, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is one of the greatest living symbols of non-violence. Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj salutes the Dalai Lama and his followers for carrying on the non-violent struggle.
To strengthen the forces of non-violence, it is imperative to see the movement under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the liberation and well-being of Tibetans as well as the Chinese people against oppressive rule does succeed. We feel that the movement of Mahatma Gandhi for the liberation will remain unfulfilled till the oppressed people anywhere in the world, including our next door neighbour Tibet, achieve Swaraj (self-rule).
With this objective, the Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj has taken up an action programme as under:
First Step: To express its solidarity and support to the Tibetan struggle, Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj organized special prayer meetings on three different occasions - 2nd of October, 1995 (Mahatma Gandhi's birthday) 25th December `95 (Christmas) and 3rd May `96 Lord Buddha's birthday.
Hundreds of prayer meetings were held simultaneously in different parts of India and also in many other countries, which had evoked enthusiastic response from different sections of the public.
Second Step: To awaken world public opinion to persuade the present rulers of China to see reason, we have decided to organize a non-violent action programme on the forthcoming birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, 2nd October `96 in New Delhi. A memorandum will simultaneously be presented at 11.00. A.M. at all the embassies by batches of eleven members which will be preceded by prayers and meditation.
The Memorandum will consist of the following:
(i) An appeal to the Chinese authorities to initiate, without pre-conditions, a dialogue with H.H. the Dalai Lama to find an amicable solution to the Tibetan problem.
(ii) To restore the right of the Tibetans to protect their religious, cultural and spiritual way of life.
(iii) To respect human rights, to save the environment and stop the population transfer forthwith.
Third Step: Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj will initiate a global satyagrah inside Tibet consisting of members belonging to various nations committed to non-violence from Buddha Jayanti Day, the 22nd of May `97.
You're requested to make it convenient to be with us on 2nd October with your friends. Kindly let us know the names and particulars of the participants at your earliest convenience so that we could register them, assign places and convey the detailed programme well in advance.
Even if your are unable to send your representatives to join us, please organize a special prayer meeting at your own place on 2nd October at 11.00 A.M. sharp as a gesture of solidarity and pray for the cause.
Sincerely yours,
S. Rinpoche Nirmala Deshpande
