Tenchok Tempel, 27, was a monk in the Tibetan monastery of Sakya. He died presumably after tortures on sept. 14th, '96, 2 weeks after he was arrested. According our sources coming back from Tibet, the monk was arrested on Sept. 1st during ritual dances performed before Chinese officials.
This arrest was following the one of Gendun Gyaltsen, on August 23rd, for having found in his room some photos and tapes of HH the Dalai Lama. We are very much worried about his health.
Tenchok Tempel's body was incinerated on Sept. 17th, even before his family could see him. The Chinese authorities, as well as the Sakya prison, did say the family that Tenchok Tempel had commited suicide.
