Geneva, 17 October - His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Spiritual and Political leader of the six million Tibetan people will make a two-day visit to the German city of Dusseldorf on 25 October, 1996. During the short stay in Dusseldorf, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will open a UNESCO Benefit Gala for "Children in need" on the evening of 26 October. "We hope His Holiness' presence at this Gala will help UNESCO to generate the necessary funds to assist the needy children of our world," said Mrs. Chungdak Koren, the Representative of H. H. Dalai Lama, for Central and Southern Europe Affairs.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama is visiting Germany for the first time since the German Bundestag adopted a strong resolution to express its concern over the situation in Tibet on 20 June 1996.
His Holiness will arrive in Dusseldorf after visiting the European Parliament in Strasbourg. On 27 October, His Holiness will visit Hungary at the invitation of Club of Budapest.
