MOSCOW, October 18 (Itar-Tass) - The exhibition entitled "The hundred days in the Himalayas" opens today in the halls of the Russian Academy of Arts in Moscow. On display are works of eleven artists of the Russian Academy of Arts who made a travel to that picturesque area in the northeast of India. It was the fifth such expedition.
It is in the Himalayas that great Russian artist Nicholas Roerich lived and worked. The olden estate of the legendary artist now turned into a memorial museum is situated in the Kulu Valley (the Valley of Gods), the holy place for Hindus.
The participants in the expedition, artists of various ages working in different styles reflected in their works the beauty of the unique Tibetan nature.
The exposition is timed for the days of Indian culture in Moscow. Some time ago, it was shown in the Academy of Fine Arts in Delhi.
The expedition to the Himalayas took place with the support of the Ministry of Culture and thanks to its organisers -- the International Memorial Roerich Trust, the Jawaharlal Neru Cultural Centre and the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
