BRUSSELS (Oct. 23) XINHUA - Tibet is an integral part of China and no other nation, organization or individual should interfere with the internal affairs of China, a spokesman for the Chinese Mission to the European Union said here today.
The spokesman made the remark here today in response to Dalai Lama's ongoing visit to the European Parliament (EP) and the European Commission (EC).
As an integral part of China, Tibet is now an autonomous region under the Chinese sovereignty, he said, adding that no other nation, parliament, organization or individual should interfere with China's internal affairs in whatever way.
The spokesman pointed out that instead of being an ordinary religious person, Dalai Lama was only a political exile who has long been engaging abroad in activities aimed at splitting up China.
Backed up by some foreign governments and organizations, Dalai Lama has been intensifying his efforts abroad to split up China, undermine its national solidarity and destabilize this autonomous region of China, the spokesman said.
A number of EP members have lately invited the Chinese political exile to visit and make speeches at the parliament and some EP and EC leaders were even meeting him, which, according to the spokesman, has constituted a serious violation of Chinese sovereignty and rude interference with China's internal affairs.
China is paying close attention to developing its relations with the EU, but such a relationship should be built on the basis of mutual respect, mutual benefits, equality and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, the spokesman believed.
It should be known that the Chinese government and its people are always steadfast in their stand as far as their territorial sovereignty and national dignity are concerned, and that they will never give in to any outside pressure, the spokesman said.
He finally asked the European Parliament and the European Commission to take the interests of the whole into account to avoid causing any undue harm to China-EU relations. Enditem
