LHASA (Nov. 1) XINHUA - A deputy secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Region's Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), met today with a delegation from the Socialist Group of the European Parliament, led by its vice-chairman, Luigi Colajanni.

The secretary, Danzim, briefed the visitors on Tibet's economic development, religious and cultural protection, local people's lives, and China's preferential policies for development in Tibet.

Extending a warm welcome to the visitors for a tour of Tibet, he also invited European nations to participate in the region's development.

Colajanni observed that guided by the reform and open policy initiated by Deng Xiaoping, various parts of China, including Tibet, have achieved a strong momentum of economic development, a fact that left a deep impression on the delegation members.

The four-member delegation arrived in Lhasa yesterday at the invitation of the CPC. They have held discussions with Tibetan political and religious figures, and visited scenic sites and Tibetan farmers' families. The delegation is scheduled to leave tomorrow.
