LHASA (Nov. 11) XINHUA - Fourteen provinces and municipalities in China have joined together in helping the Tibet Autonomous Region, by providing funds and people to work there.
In 1994, the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the State Council designated 62 projects for helping Tibetan development, enlisting 14 provinces and municipalities for the aid on a rotating basis.
Fifty of these projects have been completed, and the rest are going quite well. A total of 3.47 billion yuan have been spent on them.
They have added 206 million kilowatt-hours to Tibet's annual electrical generating capacity, and have increased the enrollment capacity of primary and middle schools by 4,900 students.
Radio programs can be received by 50 percent of the region's people and TV by 40 percent.
More than 800 cadres from other parts of China have gone to Tibet to work, acting as a "bridge" for Tibet's economic and cultural exchanges with other parts of the country.
The 14 provinces and municipalities have spent 250 million yuan on more than 100 projects in agriculture, animal husbandry, education, traffic facilities, and post and telecommunications.
