November 12, 1996
To all Tibetan Associations and Support Groups in the Americas,
I would like to extend my greetings as Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the Americas. As you know, I took over the responsibilities of this Office on October 1, 1996.
I wish to inform you of a decision reached at the second International Conference of Tibet Support Groups, held in Bonn, Germany in June of this year. It was decided by those in attendance that coordinated actions should be planned for December 10, Human Rights Day, for the release of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima.
We are therefore requesting that the Tibetan Associations, Tibet Support Groups, and other organizations should jointly organize special actions on December 10 for the release of the Panchen Lama. We hope that you will coordinate with the other groups in each of your areas.
Those Tibet Support Groups with representatives at the Bonn conference are already aware of this date, and I am sure you are already making preparations.
Please make plans for Human Rights Day, and keep in touch with this Office with any suggestions for coordinated actions, using email if possible. Please also inform us of the results of the actions.
Thanking you,
Sincerely,
Dawa Tsering
Representative of
HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA
