Urgent appeal for Ngawang Sangdrol
According declarations from a Tibetan nunn, formerly detained in Drapchi and recently arrived in India, Ngawang Sangdrol, 21 years old, a nunn from Garu monastery, who was arrested on 17th June 1992 after a pacific demonstration on the Barkhor, has been since four months under a very difficult situation and badly treated.
Fist condamned to 3 years of jail, her term was extended to 9 years for having sung in Drapchi prison.
End of June 96, Drapchi authorities required the prisoners to wash their cells before a visit from Chinese officials. Ngawang Sangdrol had a dispute with a soldier. Sent back to her jail, she shouted a few slogans requesting Tibet independance.
Since then, she has been isolated and is said to have been tortured.
Following this, she has been condamned for an additional 8 years, resulting in a total of 17 years altogether.
