BEIJING (Nov. 20) XINHUA - China's largest industrial city Shanghai is to help renovate power grids in a 5.6 square kilometer area of downtown Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Today's "Wenhui Daily" reported that engineers from Shanghai have already completed the renovation design, costing 500,000 yuan (about 60, 000 US dollars).
However, Shanghai will transfer the design to Tibet free of charge as part of efforts to support the development of the remote Himalayan region.
According to the design, the power grids will adopt advanced know-how and equipment, and will not need to be further upgraded in the coming 20 years, the Shanghai-based newspaper said.
