Radio Tibet: it already exists ... an answer to Bernard Kouchner declaration by Olivier Dupuis, general secretary of the Radical Party and member of the European Parliament.

Brussels, 22 November 1996. European MP Bernard Kouchner has launched an appeal "for the creation of an independent Tibetan radio" that shall give "a voice to the Tibetans in exile".

In this regards Olivier Dupuis has declared that: "Contrary to the Tibetans, Mr. Kouchner seems to have some flaws at the level of ... information.

1. For almost a year now, an independent Tibetan radio is already in existence. During this year, more than 95% of its programs are received without problems. In fact, since about 6 weeks, this radio Voice of Tibet no longer has any broadcasting problems.

2. Voice of Tibet contrary to the project of Bernard Kouchner does not only address the Tibetan community in exile (especially the communities living in India and Nepal) but also the Tibetans ... living in Tibet. Numerous testimonies indicate that a lot of Tibetans are already listening on a daily basis to Voice of Tibet, both Tibetans 'inside' Tibet and from the diaspora.

Mr. Kouchner proposes to give a "voice to the Tibetans in exile to enable them talk to their people".

This is exactly what is done by the Voice of Tibet who is working in close collaboration with the Tibetan community in exile.

New ideas, new proposals, new projects could of course be welcomed. On the condition that they take the interested parties and the initiatives that already exist into consideration."
